Heritage Seedlings, Inc.

We are the world's leading grower of some of the most in-demand deciduous woody plant species - plants such as Acer griseum, Stewartia pseudocamellia and Acer triflorum. Other seedlings that we offer such as Red and Green Japanese maples, are more widely propagated; however, you'll rarely find maples in wholesale quantities that are as well-grown as ours.

From the controlled environment of our retractable roof greenhouses, we take hundreds of thousands of small liners to the field. On greenhouse benches we air-prune roots close to the crown so that after transplanting, new roots develop near the soil surface and are harvested when we dig at season's end. The result: consistently strong re-growth and fewer blanks in your containers or nursery rows.

We began to graft Cornus kousa 'Satomi´ 15 years ago, and were among the first to introduce this plant to the US trade. We now offer 1- and 2-year grafts of a dozen dogwood cultivars, a large selection of magnolias and more than 40 cultivars of Japanese maples.

Growing woody liners from cuttings really took off when we began to offer Betula Heritage® eight years ago. Recently named Urban Forest Tree of the Year, it's a fast turnover item - a consistent moneymaker for all who grow it. We now offer more than 70 kinds of woody plants propagated from soft-wood cuttings.

A number of taxa are difficult to root from stem cuttings, so we bring them into production from the laboratory. We pot up micro-cuttings of Amelanchier Autumn Brilliance® and Betula Renaissance Reflection® and place them under fog, gradually hardening them off as they acclimatize to outdoor conditions.
